The Unforgotten

I will never forget,

the day that changed my life.

Unexpected and stunned,

PTSD some may call it.

So many years later, still bothersome.

The flashbacks that I cannot unsee.

It would drive anyone crazy.

Unspeakable moments replaying constantly,

where you’ll freeze as the brain goes numb.

Except the freezing doesn’t last forever.

The pain comes back,

only to be worse this time,

and what else can one do except fight it.

Recovery is in plain sight.

The future looks promising,

so I know what needs to be done.

as I close my eyes and take my deep breaths.

Forget the unforgotten.
