The Wilderness or The Desert

When you walk into the bathroom to take a shower, you usually pull the curtain back and run the hot water. Not this time. Instead, you enter your shower and go on a quest. You embark upon another dimension that no one knows about. You have two options: the wilderness or the desert. Each mission has its pros and cons. Mind you, you must enter the bathroom alone in order for you to be a participant. If you try to FaceTime someone, it won’t work. If you try to leave the bathroom to show someone in the house what’s going on, it won’t work because you are trapped inside. No service, and no one can hear you from the inside. If you are fortunate enough to make it out of the wilderness or desert alive and tell people about your experience, that’s great. However, people will think you are delusional and making it all up in your head. Who will really believe you? Think about it. After I explain to you what happens to our contestants, you will understand. What your friends and family don’t realize is that they dodged a bullet by not being one of the ten participants. 

Twice a year, we randomly choose ten people around the world to test this experiment. They are random dates, so no one is expecting it. Once you’re in the bathroom and have been given the two options, you’re trapped. You MUST choose; there is no going back. If you die on the adventure, you die in real life as well. Some contestants come back alive to tell their story that no one ever believes, and others never come back. Families mourn not knowing what happened to their loved ones. In both adventures, you will have four other people tagging along with you so you will have help. Trust me, you’re going to need it.  

If you choose the wilderness, you will have the option to pick three weapons for survival. Your options are a bow and arrow, a flamethrower, a tomahawk, a pistol, a rifle, a machine gun, a sword, and a knife. You can also choose from nerve gas or grenades. We give you water to start off with, and every two hours if you make it through the checkpoints, you receive food. Beware, the wilderness is full of animals that are vicious, dangerous, and hungry for blood. Your goal is to make it to the top of the volcano before sunset. It will be 7:00 am when we place you in the wilderness. You will be given a map and you can choose between two paths. One path is easier than the other but it is very difficult to tell which path that is, so choose wisely. 

If you choose the desert, your goal is to reach the jet before it takes off. It is located all the way on the other side of the desert. You will be going 12 hours without water, unless you make it through the checkpoints every two hours. Every two hours, there will be checkpoints you have to cross to ensure you are on the right track. If you cross it within the two-hour mark, you are rewarded with water. If not, you’re out of luck. There will be obstacles along the way. You may run into a group of three-headed snakes or a pile of quicksand. You may even experience a dust storm. Expect the unexpected because anything can happen during these 12 hours of terror. Each contestant will be given a bag that will include a compass, a dagger, a pistol, and a first aid kit along with food and grenades. The first and most important thing you must do is find the map. The compass will help you figure out where to go. 

One of our test subjects, Julius, experienced the wilderness and barely survived. He gave us his thoughts. “I didn’t know what was going on. I thought it was some sort of joke, I couldn’t believe it was real. As soon as I opened my shower curtain, a video of this lady just started playing telling me that I have two options, the wilderness or the desert. I closed the curtain, confused, and turned to the bathroom door trying to open it; but the doorknob wouldn’t twist. I banged on the door and cried for help, but no one came. My mom was downstairs cooking dinner. After five minutes, I knew she wasn’t going to hear me. I slowly walked back to the bathtub and decided to choose the wilderness. The three weapons I picked were a bow and arrow, a rifle, and nerve gas. I didn’t think any of my crew members were going to make it out. When it got down to only two of us left, I feared for my life. My partner Jordan and I worked together to fight off the gorilla-rhinos. On that island, I saw creatures I didn’t even know existed. Gorilla-rhinos and flying chimpanzees were just a couple of the crazy creatures we encountered. When Jordan and I finally made it to the top of that volcano, I was relieved, but only for a couple of seconds. After we made it to the top of the volcano, the same lady who gave me the instructions for the mission appeared again, only this time as a ghost figure. She was not real, but was there. She told me and Jordan that only one of us could be standing on top of the volcano, and that we had to fight to be the last man standing. She disappears, and I slowly turn around to Jordan looking at me with so much anger. I knew what he was thinking, and he knew what I was thinking. It was either survival or death. As he took out his flamethrower, I ran the opposite way taking out my bow and arrow. As I was running, all I could think about was, “this guy is really gonna burn me alive.” I turned around and pointed my bow and arrow towards Jordan, putting as much distance between us as possible.

“You don’t have to do this man”, I say.

“You heard the lady, it’s either me or you. And I’m not dying today. I don’t even know you, I just met you. I’m not gonna let you kill me” replies Jordan, furious.

“I’m not gonna kill you. Let’s make a truce man.”

“Nah Julius…imma be the last man standing” says Jordan as he walks closer with his flamethrower.

“Take one more step, and I will do something I don’t want to do” I reply.

Jordan charges at me with his flamethrower and I draw my bow and arrow. I wait a second and release the arrow right into Jordan’s heart. I wouldn’t wish that experience upon anyone. It was by far the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done. I’m not a killer, but this quest made me one.”
