Welcome to your New Home

It was a strange night, a very strange night. Green leaves floating longer in the air, red ones abnormally sticking to the concrete. Trees were hanging almost sideways, and no one was seen out on the streets since the big storm was coming. People around town were calling it Tornado Tsunami Wanda. Folks were going nuts, telling everyone to pack their bags and move away for a while. Well what does “a while” mean? How long is that? I thought to myself in my head as I heard these maniacs talk. I’m not moving because of a storm that may not even happen.

News reporters were scared out of their minds talking about this unique mixture of a tornado and tsunami. They kept saying, “it will be here before you know it”, but never gave a time frame.

Even though there was so much talk about the storm, I didn’t think it would be too bad, or happen at all quite frankly. I decided to go to the K Mart up the street to grab a donut, a grape crush soda, and a couple more snacks. I knew I would only be out the house for fifteen minutes tops. As I pull out of my garage, I couldn’t help but to notice the dark, gloomy skies. The clouds formed in irregular shapes, the shapes of a tornado, something I had never seen before. I press on the gas pedal and floor it to make sure I don’t get caught in the storm. All of a sudden, my radio stops playing the music and switches to the news.

“THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. Everyone, stay in your homes until further notice. I repeat, please stay in your homes, take cover and stay safe citizens of North Lisebark. Tornado Tsunami Wanda is coming.”

I rush into the parking lot of the K Mart so I can get home in enough time. I see no other cars. I start talking to myself: The lights are on in the store, but it’s dark everywhere else. Someone is still here.

I yank the door handle and it slings open, sounding the loud bell. I look behind the counter and see the cash register open, with no money inside. I look all around the store and see no trace of anyone. I thought I was in the K Mart all alone.

Seconds later, I hear crying in the bathroom.

“Who’s in there?” I ask.

I open the door and see a man in his low twenties squatting in the corner, with tears pouring down his face.

“It’s….it’s something out there. You better ggg-go. You better leave now before it takes your car too.”

“What? What’s going on what is it?” I reply.

As I try to understand him, I hear a loud thud outside. Then, another. It continues and gets louder. The ground begins to shake as if someone is stomping. I look outside and see this ten foot lanky monster with one abnormal long arm. It’s metal. It has the biggest, creepiest smile on its face.

As I peer out the window at this creature, I fall into a trance. I’m stuck, not able to move at all.

“What is that thi…..”

Before I get my thought out, the monster jumps across the parking lot into the window, shattering glass everywhere, knocking me down. I get up as fast as I can and sprint into the bathroom with the cashier, panicking just like him now.

“What are we gonna do!? What is that thing out there? Do you have a gun?” I ask him.

“The gun is behind the counter, you will never make it” he says crying. “We’re done, just give up.”

We hear the monster’s loud footsteps approaching the bathroom door.

“Here, take this money. You’ll probably be the one to make it out of here alive” says the cashier as he hands me $850.

As soon as he hands me the money, the creature knocks down the door. The cashier runs and attacks it with a knife, but is unsuccessful. The monster tears the guys arm off, and starts choking him with his metal arm. He picks the cashier up by his neck, and puts him up against the corner. He’s so high in the air, his head is touching the ceiling. When the monster isn’t paying attention, I sprint out the bathroom as fast as I can. I quickly go behind the cashier counter and grab the gun. I run out the store in a flash and get into my car as quick as I can. I turn my key to start it, but it doesn’t start up. I keep trying, but it won’t work. I hear the monster screech, and I look up. I look through all of my mirrors and windows, but it is nowhere to be found. As I grab the gun, my driver side door swings off. A large hand grabs my shoulder and drags me out of the car. The ferocious beast picks me up with its normal arm, holds me up, and stares at me. All I see is saliva dripping from its horrifying face, sensing evil in its eyes. The monster starts elbowing and punching me in the face with its metal arm, and I fall to the ground after the last hit to my jaw. My mouth is full of blood, and I can barely see out of my eyes. I know this is the end, so I try to take the monster down with me. I point the gun at the monster’s head, but it quickly dodges the three bullets I fire. It ferociously grabs my arm and rips it off. It reaches into my chest with its hand, and takes my heart.

I stop envisioning what happened and open my eyes.

“That’s the last thing I remember. I woke up and now I am here, telling the story to you guys.”

I see God and some of my deceased family members looking at me in shock. God says, “You did good though Fenny, you tried your best. You fought hard, and gave it your all, that’s all I wanted to see from you. You’re in a much better place now…Welcome to Heaven son.”
